I wondered the same thing. I wanted to understand why Alefantis was so "powerful". I lived in DC for a couple years, and no one ever said, "you gotta try Comet Ping Pong pizza. It's awesome!" So I don't think he's so influential because his restaurant is the shit. The article doesn't give any substantive reason other than the restaurant(s) (Bucks too).
