Read the book Partners in Crime, all about CF corruption.

I'm reading it now on Kindle. Explains a lot. You get the sense that the CF is hopelessly corrupt and exploitative. Doesn't even get into the occult, child trafficking, etc. But it makes it seem a lot more possible.
