There is a person of interest in Portugal, in the area where Madeleine McCann disappeared, who may be able to identify Podesta and his companion. The justice system is corrupt in Portugal, as in most of those countries, but they couldn't cover up their tracks there.

Portugal's elite linked to paedophile ring | World news | The Guardian

'Portuguese police insisted yesterday they had no record of the documents sent to them by Mrs Costa Macedo. '

'The material sent to the police, which yesterday appeared to have been lost, was damning proof of the activities of the paedophile ring, Mrs Costa Macedo said. '

'"He [Silvino] was just one element in a huge paedophile network that involved important people in our country," Mrs Costa Macedo explained in a newspaper interview. '

'Mrs Costa Macedo said that many of the photographs were found at the house of a Portuguese diplomat in the town of Estoril, 20 miles from Lisbon. '

'A scandal over a paedophile ring run from a state orphanage gripped Portugal yesterday as it threatened to engulf diplomats, media personalities and senior politicians. '

The Podesta Brothers Revealed to be in Portugal the day of Madeleine McCann's Disappearance

"The Casa Pia child sexual abuse scandal was a case of child sexual abuses involving a number of children and employees at Casa Pia, a Portuguese state-run institution for the education and support of poor children and under-age orphans.[1] Portuguese Judiciary Police (Polícia Judiciária) officials estimate that more than 100 boys and girls[1] of the 4,600 pupils enrolled in Casa Pia at the time, including some deaf and mute, may have been sexually abused throughout several decades. The scandal involved several prominent men, including TV presenter Carlos Cruz, former Casa Pia governor Manuel Abrantes, and former UNESCO ambassador Jorge Ritto.[2] The trial is one of the longest running in Portuguese history, lasting more than five years, with testimony from more than 800 witnesses and experts.[3] On 3 September 2010, Carlos Cruz, Carlos Silvino, Hugo Marçal, Manuel Abrantes, Ferreira Diniz and Jorge Ritto were convicted and sentenced to up to eighteen years in prison due to crimes occurring in the late 1990s and early 2000s. This was the first time an institutional sex abuse scandal had been taken to court in Portugal."

The handler Carlos Silvino who picked the kids from the orphanage to be examined by a famous doctor in-house for STDs and then driven to clients' houses was the only one who didn't get a light sentence.

These people owned the justice system and there were partisan implications in the whole process.

The judge who picked the case and carried forth with the trial, a true hero, had his career destroyed and he got shipped off to some backwater court.

The TV presenter Carlos Cruz was the one whose case dragged for a longer time and the victims eventually settled for an undisclosed sum.

Justice wasn't served, but people haven't forgotten who they are.
