Not sure if it's been discussed but I came across this earlier. Didn't post it because I don't think it's relevant. Basically, he went delinquent on his property taxes and had to pay them or the property would go to a buyer.

Lots of investors snag up properties this way.. It's a way to get property dirt cheap. You buy it at the auction, and the owner is given one last, final chance to make right on the taxes - or the new owner gets posession of it.

This to me indicates that Alefantis may not be as wealthy as everyone thinks he is.
