Yes. The pixel one

MAGABoomer

PDF files can "phone home". So yeah.

jonnythaiwongy9

Once the pdf has downloaded, do they have you, or day haft open it?

MAGABoomer

Not sure. I think you have to open it. If you copy the file to a flash and move it to a computer not on the net it can't phone home. Probably only if you open it.

VieBleu

Well, no one is doing anything illegal at least.

Zip files are safe. Do not execute anything (OBVIOUSLY). Right click and open with compression software. Beware .html files as they can contain malicious javascript/flash. Be sure to open them in a browser with javascript/flash disabled. Someone mentioned in another comment to use sandboxie. That can also be useful. NEVER use internet explorer.

All of that said, you can still be hit with malware or otherwise be tracked just by clicking on an external news article here.

I'm not sure what decomposer engine is, but it sounds like some sort of malware scanning for email.

Jefiakra

Basically. Was a vulnerability in Symantec in which maliciously crafted archives (including Zip files) could exploit Symantec's archive extractor, and execute shellcode. If I recall, there's also a whole version of Rar (Rar 3, maybe), which can contain arbitrary code as part of the spec . Zip is a very simple format, so you're probably safe, but it's worth knowing that there are exceptions out there.

I think this is reasonable. Everybody should have a friend or family member who knows their account details so they can make a post letting us know if we 'commit suicide' or otherwise die or disappear mysteriously.

LargePepperoni

I did this with my family and several friends.

learn to sandbox and get on with your day.

Avoid torrents if you're afraid of giving out your IP.

Avoid mega upload if you don't want to support a 300 lbs tard.

crazimal

Yes. Remember the Washington post propornot sourced article blaming Russia for fake news, labeling half the Internet as pro Russian propaganda? The one that is getting them sued? Well it mentioned those nice anonymous guys at propornot offered a browser plugin at their website to help you by letting you know if a site you visited was on their "bad" list. Can you believe that?! It's true. This seems like a ham fisted move by an agency to distribute warez. And I don't mean FBI, and NSA would be a little more competent so take your pick of likely candidates. This underlines the conspiracy narrative of a behind scenes coup/counter coup between alliances of agencies, pols, and military. Plausible? Maybe...

ababcb

I am becoming more and more convinced of the coup/counter coup scenario every day.
