I just want to point out that if you read the explanation that it sorta accounts for all of your questions. The guy explains that he doesn't have any affiliation with wikileaks except that he is in possession of the emails and keys to dead man switches that he will release. Not saying it's not fake but that certainly would explain why it's hosted on a host that wikileaks doesn't like, because supposedly it isn't affiliated with wikileaks so they wouldn't have bias against any host. The guy claims the original intent was to find Assange.

RecycledUser

Can you explain pls, what you mean by a movement to suppress? Thanks.

FuckTheseSickos

lol.... Your keyboard alright over there? You pop the keys off pounding them feverishly writing that, "dumbass"? --- My quick reply was that those who are downloading this know what they are doing. I wasn't giving implicit instructions on how to view, was pointing out to Nerdy Noodle that it's possible.

Calm down.

Like that guy in the office that always wants to be right and is more or less a nuisance that you never want to talk to.

some black window pops up half a second and closes right after, will try to snapshot it.

According to http://www.whois.com/whois/findingassange.com the domain was resold by NAMECHEAP.COM so I wouldn't be surprised that the person who registered the domain had no idea that Namecheap got domains from Enom.

Also I don't think Enom is terribly well known because this is the first I had seen about them. Hopefully the site doesn't get pulled but even if it did I'd expect the keys to get out if the person who made the site was serious.

HomeboyChrisBanned

You cant prove shit buddy. Crawl back in your hole

ababcb

Excellent work!

SecularPenguinist

I'm fully expecting trollface to pop up once the timer reaches zero.

IsThisThingSafe

It's not? I'm not a tech whiz, but know enough to get by. I show that the registrar is enom. What do you know? can You screenshot what you have and explain it? If I'm wrong, I'll delete this thread.

DuffBeer4Me

enom just registers the domain. that is not the same as hosting a site.

DuffBeer4Me

Findingassange.com resolves to 185.27.134.118 (nslookup tool finds this)

hang_em_high

How the hell did they find 125 unbiased journalists? It is hard to find 1.

Chistock

Either the password hashes will work when released, or they won't.

IsThisThingSafe

Agreed, I just hope no one downloads anything from this site. I don't trust it at all The site doesn't mention passcodes, it just says that it will give you information to download. Suspicious OP is suspicious.

paulf

Download, unzip in a virtual machine with no internet connection, inspect.

justanotherone

I'm pretty sure there is no danger from opening a zip. If there are txt files they are safe to open, image files are generally safe also. If the keys aren't in a txt file then it's obviously a scam.

standalone

Shameless clickbait. You didn't prove anything.

dindonufin

No need to prove, it's obvious. But thanks for the confirmation.

SuperHappyFunBall

If they release the encryption keys for two of the previously released insurance files, you will not need to download anything from this website. A copy and paste should suffice. If the promised two keys do not open the insurance files released prior to 10-17-2016, which have been verified with a WikiLeaks released SHA256 hash, then it is a fraud and nothing they publish should be trusted.

Baluga

"enom" proves nothing. If you wanted to set up a website on the cheap, you may end up going through enom, just because they are a large company that does this domain registry.

IsThisThingSafe

I would agree, except that enom has a history of taking down sites they don't agree with. Why is this site still up, when others that were far more benign removed?

Baluga

99.9% of these businesses are automated. Things only get taken down if they attract attention and these guys notice.

IsThisThingSafe

And you think this hasn't been noticed???

Baluga

By enom. Yup.

Luxxy

ONE DAY LEFT until more are leaked.

IsThisThingSafe

So you're making a new website with all of Assange's work, and call up the hosting company that you specifically called a ban on due to free speech issues years prior. No. Plus, this company has a history of shutting down sites that it disagrees with. The article says that the issues were with free speech. So why would this company even bother keeping up the site if it has such a lush history of silencing those who don't agree.

abortionburger

interesting find, but i wouldn't exactly call it proof that something juicy could be released.

micha_

Indeed an awful company. Strange. Did you contact findingassange and ask them for an explanation?

NerdyNoodle

Well that sucks.

I have to go with honeypot, then. And I certainly wouldn't download anything from that site.

FuckTheseSickos

Use a proxy > Download > Move to a virtual machine that is offline and no Internet access.

MeatballPizza

I was told today that's a proxy from Panama.

This isn't WIKILEAKS.

This is something else. Likely the Anon folks from 4chan who hacked Podesta a couple weeks before the election. They also hacked his Twitter and posted crazy stuff on it publicly. His Twitter was taken down. They had his Apple iCloud contents. All of it. It's never been published before.

ProbablyHoly

That was me that said that but what they have said is relevant. I didn't know about the wikileaks connection.

NerdyNoodle

We know it's not Wikileaks. We are looking at the hosting site: it has a history with Wikileaks and they called for a boycott of this unethical web host selling out to government inquiries, in 2008.

The fact that the new site just "happens" to be hosted with them is not a coincidence. It's a honeypot.

The whole idea of a countdown is ridiculous, it's an invitation for a DDOS and almost smacks of viral marketing for a film.

Fateswebb

Yes I did find the countdown odd for the very same reason.

MeatballPizza

The website is separate from the information dump. The information dump could happen n 4chan 8chan anywhere. Once the 'keys' are out, they're out.

Agree though. Anyone downloading anything better know what they're doing. Explains why taking down Wikileaks was such a priority.

IsThisThingSafe

That would make a little more sense, but still this is a company with numerous complaints after users had their sites shut down because the hosting company wanted to silence them. Why would the hosting company keep this website up?

micha_

That was my first thought, too. But since they "restored" keys and set this all up, it's not just a hasty project, but a project with dedicated people. Dedicated people don't know about Wikileaks former problems with eNom? You just don't register a domain in such a case - you research who is the best suited company.

And that raises a second red flag besides the illegal censorship practices of that company: you want anonymity and then you choose eNom?

Anyone downloading and using files from findingassange is well advised, to use them only on an isolated virtual machine.

totesgoats908234

Supposedly it is community members. Not WL directly. I don't see this as proof of anything.
