so here were my steps: Tried googling catalano and crime to try to figure out what the hell OP was talking about. That led to something called "the pizza connection" and who Catalano was working for. Looked into Bonanno and... sex trafficking. Cosa Nostra was working with the Albanian Mafia and was replaced by 'Ndrangheta.

So, i tried to look up what you were talking about and came across something I'm guessing is unrelated, but... oddly enough... talks about using pizzerias and other italian restaurants and as fronts for mafia smuggling operations. They only mention drugs, but they would get huge shipments of "ingredients".
