I doubt that was the real reason. More like accounts of pedophiles with months to years worth of history could be skimmed by anyone infiltrating the group, and then find circumstantial evidence supporting certain aspects of pizzagate theories. It was a potential treasure trove of insight and it got flushed after some people were floating the idea around.
