So they say it as "on pasta" and "on cheese" like you would say for example someone is "on drugs" but instead they're on "cheese" and "pasta?" It sounds in this context you're putting something on the cheese if you're genuinely discussing food. I have never seen a sentence like that in formal letters for dinner invitations which really do discuss food in my entire life.
