The same argument you posit is the same argument people posited in the Franklin Scandal that got one victim jail time even longer than the man committing the atrocities on the children, Larry King. You'd think that may be kinda important if anyone in positions of power actually cared. I'd go to your local PD (if you feel they are trustworthy) and ask if you need to file a report.
