Very good and insightful post, @vortexcortex . I just want to add that Sam Vaknin's hypothesis is referring to the psychodynamic model of early psychoanalysis which turned out to be wrong in many ways under scrutiny of imaging procedures in modern neurobiology.

However, this psychodynamic reasoning is prone to be misused as an ex post excuse.

Narcissism

What is interesting as you say is the weaponisation of psychology, and interestingly we see that there has been a [deliberate] non-funding into Narcissism research. Whereas research has been funded and conducted into even the most obscure areas of psychology. In fact since the 70's the study of Narcissism has effectively been in reverse. Could it be that the elite don't want themselves to be the focus of study?

As far as I remember, Sam Vaknin is a psychopath himself. Didn't he produce the documentary "I, Psychopath"? So I am skeptic if his description is more about how a narcisst wants to be seen by others or perceives himself rather than what a narcisst actually is.

Narcissism

Sam Vaknin is very unique in that he is a Self-Aware Narcissist which is why he is the worlds leading authority on the subject. He is not a psychopath and only used that term for a short while and now no longer uses it.
