I've lived many years up there, including life in small villages. I've never seen anything to indicate a problem with that. In fact, just the opposite in the villages I knew well....whereas, even without any police force....that sort of thing would not stand. The community would take care of it the old fashioned way, and with that overhead, I seriously doubt anyone in a community like that would even go there. The state appointed police to that community and shortly after the community voted the police out. Everyone was being arrested for drug possession (cannabis), drinking and driving, domestic disputes.....putting them prisoner in the bigger city...with court to attend etc...it was breaking them. Ironically, there was no crime before the police, and a crime wave once police arrived. Even though they voted them out, that didn't last long and the police are now a permanent fixture....as well as like 6 TSA agents for a town of less than 1,000 people. There's even a small court house and jail. But I can assure that prior to the placement of police, with the community in charge of any law enforcement (unarmed volunteer village safety officers who knew everyone and yes, if someone was too drunk to drive....they would stop them from doing so....if there was a dispute, it was resolved...etc.)....nobody would be getting away with molesting a child. If they did do it, I think the beating they would take would be overlooked by the rest of the community and justice would have been served, not to mention the prevention of anyone else even thinking about it.

I moved here about 2 years ago and have been astounded of the stories I've heard in a small native fishing community. A priest raping an entire generation of children for years, a teacher inviting "born again" Christian speakers to his school to talk about morality who are listed as sex offenders (when I learned of this I anon posted signs of his Rap Sheet anywhere I saw fliers for the event, the teachers reaction was to take them down before anyone noticed), and child services having EVERY native child in their system in some form or another, usually beginning with welfare and subsidies. It's no joke, Alaskan natives and Native people in general are supremely fucked when it comes to trafficking and child abuse.
