Some notes on queer and occult punk music

Both Heavy Breathing and Josh's band Homosuperior identify broadly as punk or post-punk. Heavy Breathing is taking its cues from the surrealist / occultist such as Laurie Anderson and Devo (who based their project on cannibalism and this book: The Beginning was the End https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Beginning_Was_the_End) ). Homosuperior identifies with the long legacy of queer punk bands, and also the occultist school of punk influenced by Genesis P. Orridge ( https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Genesis_P-Orridge) ) of Throbbing Gristle, Psychic TV, and Thee Temple ov Psychic Youth.

Comet caters to these kind of punk / post-punk acts because it attracts a certain crowd of kids.

It's not until recently I learned that "Jet Boys Jet girls" (The Damned) was about under age stuff... But not getting the English language subtleties kept it safer somehow! I still don't get the weirdness of the lyrics!

But it used to be undergroung and subversive too, qualities which are not to be found in all the deviant "art" sponsored or supported by rich liberals in power. The hopes that "liberals" entertained 50 years ago - that playing with deviant stuff was a way to accuse the evils of the power (Sympathy for the devil) - also meant that they expected a change in the power would take away this evil.

FWIW Sbarro pizza (from lyrics above) is mentioned in the the_pizzacat videos. As far as I am aware it is only my personal opinion that #pizzacat is tied into this. There is a particular Sbarro location shown in a pizzacat video that's in a mall somewhere - now closed.
