I think you are missing the meaning, the part "With fingers crossed, the old rabbit's foot out of the box in the attic" just means "If I'm lucky" and the "chicken" is a baby, they don't get to do this every day cause damn kids are hard to kidnap these days, so only if you are lucky you get your "chicken order" and get to sacrifice on any given day. Chicken lover equals Baby lover

Not really, is very casual, another way of saying it would be, "fingers crossed and god willing, we will be able to..." he is just referencing lucky things cause he really hopes he can get to do the sacrifice today, it is not for sure that he gets the "chicken" that he loves
