I'd do it. And if my life didn't suck and the science was there to say this actually does something to improve longevity and health in general, which is being implied by this article, I'd end up on both ends of that transaction at one point or another.

Not sure why this is a pedophilia thing. Firstly, we're talking about consenting parties, correct? Or are we literally accusing the elite of the left of not only pedophilia, but vampirism, complete with human livestock for siphoning? Might want some more proof of that before we lose our shit, but frankly, it wouldn't surprise me.

If this shit actually is proven to work, and it sure sounds like there's evidence, $1,000 payouts for blood and a $10,000 price for the procedure is pretty insane, so I wonder how many siphonings equates to a transfusion. Probably too fucking many.

Then there's the issue that our nation's donor plasma supply is, well, laughably insufficient. If people running facilities like these donate the old blood from the old person to local hospitals, we're talking about this technically saving lives. On top of that, you can think of it as paying younger people to get regularly tested for STDs, which can improve public health. And if you do this in inner cities, it can raise a lot of people out of poverty without using tax dollars.

As a Libertarian, helping people do better in life without involving the government and allowing a new commodity to be freely traded are enough for me to say this should exist, I'd just like to see how steep their margins are, since they're probably appalling. If it works out for them, I hope they see aggressive competition.

I'm just pointing out any potential upsides to something like this, since this thread will likely be a circlejerk of grievances. And that's fine, there's plenty to be said about how it's sort of creepy.

Is it possible that this whole "science" of youth blood injections is just a cover for satanic practices?

StringEmUp

That's why I posted it.

Everyone here has said "the younger the better" for that kind of thing. So is it unreasonable to wonder if perhaps some rich and powerful people are taking it beyond the legal limits

therealkrispy

As a skeptic, I gotta say that thought crossed my mind. Of course, if we're talking about consenting adults (no blood from anyone younger than 18), I don't see why it should be illegal. We can still point and say "those people are fucking crazy."

Kwijibo

No, It should not be illegal (and in many states 16 and 17 year olds can donate.) but it may be a phony cover story.

therealkrispy

Agreed. Needs to be looked into. As for the younger ages, that's "donating," this is selling plasma. Also, I hope the person getting the blood donates theirs.

crazimal

No doubt something to it. If I were a teenager in some circumstances I might not hesitate to donate a pint of plasma a few times a year for $1000 or so. 25 years ago I knew some young rockers living in a warehouse who did so -but only got $40-50! Where it gets sketchy is that the benefits (from what I've read in the context of Thiel and others) seem greater the younger the donor is.

Young adult blood isn't it. So informed consent is not possible.

Young people do heal amazingly compared to adults. It would be strange if this parabiosis did not work. But nobody wants you to drain blood from their 5 year old.

therealkrispy

Yeah, if this is done any younger than 18, it's kinda fucked.

RedditISCompromised

Now that's worth talking about.

The moral/ethical implications are huge. If you think about organ donation in this country there are extreme measures taken so that money (or a price tag) cannot be made from both people. You cannot sell your blood, you can only donate.

To protect this country from becoming like underdeveloped countries or poor countries, where it has become a market and rich people (countries) take advantage of impoverished people, who out of desperation to survive would sell their blood/organs. The US medical ethics forbid this so it does not become a market. To incentivize is disastrous.

The very reason we have blood donation centers Is to prevent this from ever happening. To donate blood is your ethical decision to make, out of grace to help unknownpeople who might need it. It is illegal to sell your blood or organs.

This happens in extremely poor countries because people are desperate. People who have money to buy organs or blood have to be stopped by goverment protections. This is the essence of human rights.

I hope we do not want a society or world where the elite can shop for blood/organs. This happens but I hope to God our government has not slipped on these rules of human rights abuse. So dangerous. These are ethical/moral decisions that must be debated openly.
