Bans only happen temporarily, and only if the user is really giving the finger to sub guidelines and mod requests to comply with them. We try to avoid it except in severe cases. There are a couple of groups of shills that get on and shitpost to flood good material off the board. That was happening a lot last night and this morning, and mods get pressured trying to remove all the posts. Banning is a tool to slow the flood. Sometimes it is hard to distinguish between the flooders and the legit users trying to add material -- especially when it's just a few words like that. Believe it or not, we really aren't trying to censor. :-)

Also, you can find anything that's been removed in the removed submission area at the bottom of the sidebar, so stuff isn't lost, even if it was removed. Thanks for your post, gAvenger, and for tweaking it to meet the guidelines.
