My take is he was a Freemason at the time he was soliciting the 14-year old boy, although since he resigned immediately when caught press reports say he's a former Freemason. I'm not clear if he was Grand Master at the time of the incident, I found him being reelected for a year in April 2015, incident was December 2016.

Well the Daily Express article linked from steemit.com in the OP has a subtitle: "A FORMER Freemason faces jail after he was caught by a police internet sting trying to incite a child into sex." (interesting capitalization) and "Alan Wright, 75, was once a Grand Master in the secretive organisation and would have been present at meetings attended by Prince Michael of Kent. He resigned when the details of his activities came to light."

I will be the devil's advocate here. Does being a Freemason Grandmaster and a pedophile mean that Freemason Grandmasters are pedophiles? Maybe he is a Freemason Grandmaster who happens to be a pedophile too. There is only a connection if you can prove many Freemason Grandmasters are pedophiles.

I did some quick research before posting and found this, thought perhaps it was an ostensibly plausible explanation for the lack of mention of Masonry.

For example here's a summary of the Savile case by one of the UK speculative, anti-pedo blogs https://theneedleblog.wordpress.com/2013/04/04/madlands-savile-article/ There's nothing in the discussion only one single word comment "Masons".

The UK has had scandals because of the extent of police membership in the Freemasons. (Some even say the checker pattern on UK police helmets refers to the Masons.)

During the pedophile scandal after Jimmy Savile passed there's been a lot of speculation, but strangely enough (given the above) not too many allegations of Masonry as a mechanism for the coverup of his activities. (Well he wasn't officially a member; since he was ostensibly a Catholic they are not allowed to join, I've heard.)

Anyway so it seems like a big deal to arrest a major Freemason.
