Oh, I agree that it doesn't have to be that way - but I'm one of those weirdos that really thinks we have one party called Big Government with two wholly owned subsidiaries (RNC and DNC) who just grant the illusion of power "passing back and forth".

I taught in economically depressed areas and ghettos. Nowadays you have to pay teachers 90k a year to get them to stay in those places while all the best teachers prefer the cushy rich districts even if it means less money. Nobody wants to teach in a building where you worry your car or classroom will be broken into. There is no such thing as access to good schooling without the option of charter schools. Let the parents who do actually care send their kids to charter schools even if it means vouchers and buses. I felt so bad for all of my students especially the ones who wanted to learn. You can't fix the problems by continuing to promote students through shitty schools when they don't know how to read and write.

I know very little about this area, I'm much more cognizant about healthcare/healthcare IT...so all I can judge is Trump's ability (as advised) to choose people.

Supreme Court was an absolute home run - and a checkmate perfect ideological replacement for Scalia as far as I can tell. I know that his choice for HHS (Tom Price) was excellent, as was Mattis for SecDef. Tillerson makes sense. I'm not a Trump cheerleader by any stretch of the imagination, but in my opinion, he has really gotten a lot of these choices right. So I have to cross my fingers on this one and remember that he gets to choose who advises him - the Senate just gets to advise (the D's had a chance to make any valid points for sure) and if the votes are there, consent.

De Voss is not a good thing for the children of this country. Not all of Trumps picks will be good for the children and their parents and grandparents. De Voss has never taught in a classroom. She knows nothing about running a school. I am hoping that Sessions does what we are waiting for. I am willing to give Trump a chance although I did not vote for him, voted third party.If De Voss takes office, I will keep an eye on her and everyone else should too. I'm one of the people that hopes she is just there to shut the Department down. We have received nothing for all of the $ poured down that particular drain known as the "Department of Education". Return the money to the States, there's no one-size-fits-all solution to this problem, I'd much rather see fifty laboratories of Democracy competing to be the best.

My son was only in first grade when he came home from school asking about sex change operations that he had learned about from a library book. I wrote to the principal asking them to remove the book from the library and they couldn't figure out what I was talking about because it wasn't in the book. So we figured out it must have been a book another classmate brought, or a book fair book.

A lot of Republicans and Libertarians want to return local return to the schools and do away with Common Core.

I don't know much about this person Betsy whatever, but I am a licensed school teacher who hasn't taught since 2004 and I can easily say that it wouldn't matter if she had ever set food in a public school in her life. Sorry but it takes time to build an airtight case or even a good one - the Clintons are both lawyers themselves don't forget, and there are layers and layers between them and the criminal enterprises they enable, with a lot of plausable deniability built in. However, that said, yes, if there is nothing by the end of the year, then no excuses. Just changing administrations drains a lot of it. The State Dept, called "Foggy Bottom", is almost empty of personnel right now. I don't hang on every syllable of rhetoric from anyone, and no, I don't think he has an unhealthy relationship with his daughter. Her mother and his current wife are strong eastern european women who don't put up with nonsense. I think he is a doting father with an awkward public persona and bringing that stuff up is a stupid distraction.
