Aside from that Belgium at the time proved to be a Pedocracy indeed. Leading LEOs and prosecutors were taken off the case, judges ruled much of the evidence inadmissible while much of the Belgian elites were either implicated or busy covering up.

They had MASSIVE demonstrations at the time with millions of people turning out to protest. Nothing happened, only Dutroux and his wife were incarcerated, and some twenty years later they got a known pedophile (Di Rubio) for prime minister.

Goes to show this problem will fester until dealt with harshly and completely. Also goes to show the public is largely powerless to address it even in a democracy (albeit in this case an extremely dysfunctional one)
