My spouse is a LEO. I changed my last name on Facebook to a pseudonym when all the LEO's were being killed to protect my family. One of my so-called fb friends reported me to fb. Facebook locked my account and required three forms of legal ID to be able to unlock it. I refused. I lost ten years of pictures of my six kids, one of whom had already passed away. I had 3 vids of my dead child when she was alive on fb that I had not stored anywhere else (stupid me). But I refused to give them my legal name, date of birth, etc. Some of the documents they suggested submitting to them were copies of my social security card, driver's license, voters registration, marriage license, birth certificate, library card, ect. I had no clue where these documents would be stored, even though Facebook said they would destroy them after verifying my ID. Who do they think they are? How could I know what they would do with my legal documents? It pained me to lose all of the pics and vids I had of my kids, but it was the principal of it, ya know? I was not going to be extorted or held hostage....I would rather lose those pics and vids than my dignity. Now, I use fb, they dont use me. I made a new page and I use them as a info dissemination platform with the info they hate..

The same intrusive leftists who run Facebook and have no problem requiring government ID for an account will riot in the streets and shout "racism" when someone calls for the US of a government ID for identification when voting...even if the ID is conveniently provided at no cost. The double standard and hypocrisy of leftists is unparalleled. And some have actually questioned whether FB manipulates its news feeds and sharing of posts.

Just like Twitter asking for verification via a phone number when you post about pizzagate. The surveillance state does not want anonymity as this interferes with their plans. Don't get me wrong, I disagree with this strongly. The only thing I can think is that you can now pay people through facebook messenger. I know because my wife has an online business and people do this. This is the only reason you would need to issue an ID. But if it's a personal facebook page I don't see the reason. It should only come up if you make an Facebook Page, which is tailored for business.
