South Korea sex scandal ( pizzagate )

submitted 2017-03-28T15:00:42 by Kacey

We got a movie from Netflix called "Silenced" also called "The Crucible" (there is a different US film by that name so I presume that is why they changed the US version). It was made in South Korea in 2011 and dramatizes a true story of pedophilia at the Gwangju Inhwa School for deaf children. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gwangju_Inhwa_School A brave new teacher at the school exposed it. The perpetrators got convicted and short terms which an appeals court shortened even more. The film however brought the story to more people and prompted some useful changes in the laws of the land....not enough but something. One of the perpetrators was a highly respected man in his church......church members defended him based on their belief in his goodness.

We have only watched the first half, but it is well acted and compelling (and horrifying). Perhaps it can show some ideas on how to get more public awareness, although given that our media and movie industries are compromised, it might not help. At any rate if you are attempting to educate others this might be a movie that could help show them that "nice" people do very bad things under the cover of doing "good".
