I saw the BBC documentary (Madeline McCann:10 years on) on Maddie's disappearance and what caught me was the answers from Mr Santos who lost his job and was working as a tourist boat driver.

Mr Santos said that he remembers everything from the disappearance and that he lost his job due to a letter from a higher authority. He was told to never speak of it again. Watching his body language made it clear that he knows far more than he is letting on. The British and the Portuguese authorities (not the police) appear to have colluded to have covered up the disappearance.
