Could it be that the FBI was investigating their director Comey for his wrongdoing in several cases, including pedophilia and child trafficking? Is that even possible?

Sharing this as a personal opinion:

Comey was fired because of he failed in his job, not presenting an obvious case on Hillary Clinton wrongdoings to the Attorney, but instead messaging the congress there will be no prosecution. Hillary's crime was much worse than what has been represented to the public - She had that email server on purpose to control what the congress and everybody would be able to see or not from her use of email, she knew in advance there would be also confidential material, she knew that material wasn't allowed to be put on a private server outside the government, yet she did it. She committed a crime, knowingly, endangering her country.

Now, the actual question is: Why Comey didn't do his job? My answer is that he had only two bad choices: Do it and endanger yourself, or don't do it and endanger only your career. And what do I mean "endanger yourself": My guess is he was blackmailed, someone having very heavy material on Comey (even child porn) and that same 'someone' told him he may not put Hillary under the pressure. Comey simply choose being likely fired, instead of seeing that material being used.

As my two cents, this was my personal guess. I have no proof whatsoever, no sources, just a hunch based on several picks in several sites not checked for reliability. Strong enough hunch to be shared as a comment, but I wouldn't make a post out of it without having more. If you do, please share.

I wouldn't disagree with you but I think there may also be an element of fear for his personal safety. Everyone he worked with was compromised & he would be expendable. Look at Jason Chaffetz & Deven Nunez. Both of them very quickly faded into the background & it's rumored that they have both had their families lives threatened. The Clintons, Lynches, McCabes, McAuliffes, Clappers, Brennans, et al, were all dirty. Trey Gowdy is rumored to have security detail as well as his family, he's just got balls enough to continue his investigations. Can't find anything concrete though.

I think Trump is an old dog and nothing gets by him. He had that whole dinner taped as well as phone calls with Comey. Trump knew not to trust Comey and if Comey continues to lie about crap that was said, those tapes will come out. Trump has been right over and over again.
