I have mixed feelings about this man. The cause of homosexuality is still being debated. There is evidence that it has both a biological and environmental origin. So I would imagine that pedophilia would be no different. And there is ample evidence that those engaging in sexual abuse of children come from both heterosexual and homosexual backgrounds and that there is a power component, not just a sexual attraction.

So lets assume there is indeed an environmental element. Let me reply to this writer: I don't understand how your mother caused it. Could you not have just as likely grown up to be aroused by older women instead of your female peers or other little boys? Perhaps your mother's fondling of you made you preoccupied about sex at an early age and you in turn studied and reflected upon your peers, both male and female. Did they do "it"", did their parents do "it" to them?

But then I think if you were susceptible to sexual musings and arousal earlier than most children , then "normal" sex between heterosexual teens and adults as depicted in the movies and tv shows you must have watched growing up would have made you likewise normal. So now we are back to biology as the more compelling cause. If so, then you and others similar situated deserve some compassion. But God help you if you or others like you got within 10 yards of one of my kids.

If conversion therapy can work for a significant percentage of pedophiles, then by all means society should provide the necessary resources including sex coaches and hired sex companions to reboot these misfits. Perhaps we need two terms, one for people who feel attracted to kids but never ever would act on it, and one for people who act on their urges. It is the actual abuse of children that is the problem, not the thoughts in people's minds. We want to help protect kids, but some of the kids who have been abused become abusers. If they can be helped, especially before they act on their urges, that help should be made available. If they want help we should remember that they might well have been victims themselves and direct them to counselors who have had some success
