Wow, that was a lot of info. Thanks. A lot of info on Rodney B.

So a 14 year old girl and her friends frequented parties hosted by Rodney Bingenheimer. This went on for decades. To ignore this as something “innocent“ is to take the same mentality as regarding Jimmy Savile. Stories like this were dismissed as insufficient evidence and people quiffed he just “liked them young“ and people were being too sensitive.

I only hung around the club for three nights, it was kids younger than me, I was 18 and too old to "fit in." Though I only talked to Rodney a few times he was likable and approachable, but he seemed rather effeminate, and I assumed he was gay ... so who knows If he was hitting on the young girls or not. No doubt his buddies were. He could "make or break" people in the biz. Those were some weird times. If I had time I'd look into it more. Rodney was a mama's boy who was bulled in school cause of his size. He hung out every day at Denny's and wore a leather jacket that said Elvis on the back. The trailer about Rodney looks like pure debauchery, but somehow he comes off smelling like a rose. I guess personality. Hollywood holds some dark dark secrets.

I don't remember her...but I know the story...I came of age when Joan got popular. Looking back, The Runaways were stacked with talent...how about "Mama, we're all crazee now" https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4RTipAZuMRI And Blondie...dayum, she made me feel tingly before I knew why I was experiencing that feeling.

bopper

Blondie was in that Spirit Cooking video you may recall. How did a nice kid like her end up in a place like that.

wokethefkup

Yes look up moca gala on Youtube. Blondie cuts into a cake that's a replica of herself and she is wearing a red dress.

bopper

Yep. I saw that. Really creepy.

witch_doctor1

Seriously? I missed that....dang....she was so hot though. It was weird at the time, because my pre-pubescent self knew that she was hot AF and coked out, despite knowing nothing of sex or cocaine. Remember the Solid Gold TV performances?

dassaer

Oh man Solid gold !!, "The Tide is High but I'm holding on" , yes and she was high...

An old '50s song re-done.

Hey bop

ch ch ch ch ch ch ch cherry bomb -

pedophilia was pretty much celebrated at that time, especially in rock

There was that dust up a few years ago when Jackie Fox of the group said Kim Fowley the producer had raped her at a christmas party in front of everyone and joan jett and cherie curry didn't support her story. They saw it as consensual at least at the time and said so...everybody was either on drugs, drunk, young, confused, predatory, too cool to care, uninformed or some combination plus more no doubt. https://consequenceofsound.net/2015/07/cherie-currie-on-standing-by-during-jackie-foxs-alleged-rape-i-am-innocent/

bopper

Lol you got that song in my head now. I saw something about the article you posted there but didn't pursue it, is this the incident that Cherie is talking about?

VieBleu

yeah it was a big discussion point in social media as jett and curry got a lot of criticism some of it unfair but some of it not totally unfair as Jett especially doubled down when she probably didn't need to. Obviously they were all young and in a perverted environment, but you can't take a super harsh position on a victim that doesn't realize what really happened until much later and speaks about it a lot later than that. Jett btw is one of my favorites of all time, she just didn't handle this "twitterstorm" or whatever well, but I don't blame her for that much either. anyway there is plenty on it better told than I have just google Fox, rape, Jett, Curry, etc

At any rate it all just goes to prove your point in spades - a rape on a matterss I believe in the middle of the room where the band and all their friends were having a new years party. sheesh, and Kim was supposed to be one of the better of his kind.

Thanks for clearing that up. After high school I went out to Sunset Strip after seeing Rodney Bingenheimer on Tom Snyder, Rodney was a DJ who got them their start and had a disco for kids (no drinking). Nobody liked me cause I still had a David Cassidy shag, guess I shoulda had my hair spiked. Plus I was too old, eighteen, over the hill. Rodney was very nice and I didn't see anything too shady. His disco is still there and will be in a movie about the Runaway's. Oh for joy! Well you might like it. Here be Rodney w/ Deborah Harry back in the day, home movie. Rodney is the gremlin on the right.

was his disco called the Coconut Teaser for years and years?

I think it was just "English Disco." He knew everybody, there's a documentary on him, The Mayor of Sunset Strip.

"During the early 1970s, Mercury Records promoter Rodney Bingenheimer owned a glitter-glam dance club on the Sunset Strip. It was called Rodney’s English Disco, and music icons such as T. Rex, the Kinks, the New York Dolls, Elton John, Keith Moon, Led Zeppelin, and even the King, Elvis Presley, stopped by."
