I think the overall message is that there is a cult, sometimes referred to as Chapel Perilous, that will literally weasel their way into your life and change you so inexorably that you will no longer be able to work. It was a film completely filled with symbolism. In a nutshell, Capriciousness.

Chapel Perilous is a theme both in Robert Anton Wilson's literature, as well as this video here. Robert Anton Wilson concluded the experience would either turn you agnostic or into a paranoid being.
