Weinstein has left the country claiming to seek treatment in Europe. Polanksi did the same thing to avoid charges and never came back.

I was shocked and wanted confirmation this was true. Found a report on TMZ:

Harvey Weinstein is boarding a private jet Tuesday night, bound for a rehab center in Europe for sex addiction ... sources connected with the former mogul tell TMZ.

We're told Harvey has decided to take the advice of the people around him and leave immediately. We're told he will enter a live-in facility and will deal both with sex and other behavioral issues.

This can either mean:

  1. It's a ruse to show he's getting treatment and actually gives two shits about the people he screwed over

  2. It's a plan to see if this blows over. At that point, he'll decide to come back -- or not.

  3. That something MAJOR is coming and he does not want to be around when the shit hits the fan.

Weinstein's situation is different from Polanski's.

Polanski was able to flee because he had French citizenship and was living in the US under an immigration visa (green card) because he had married an American. He never applied for US citizenship.

The key is that France will not extradite French citizens to other countries .

Weinstein, though, is a US citizen . As a Jewish person he could probably get Israeli citizenship, even now, in spite of the accusations against him, because he hasn't been charged by a court yet. Unlike France, though, Israel will extradite Israeli citizens, especially when the person charged with the crime is a citizen of the country applying for extradition.

There are a few countries besides France that won't extradite their own citizens, such as Brazil, but it seems unlikely that Weinstein would have the background to be able to get citizenship in one of them.

All very true, but when you're dealing with someone with that much money, you can play the "anything can happen card". You don't know what safety measures he has in place in case he wants to never be found.

And the DOJ threat must have worked because the last I read he's headed to a treatment center in AZ. But I'm worried about him ever since the media raised the "S" word. We know the pattern when the press labels someone "suicidal". We'll see how this plays out because, like I said, I'm sure this is the tip of the iceberg.
