Turns out Kim Richards is actually Kimball Dean Richards, an ex-con and son of former California State Senator Richard Richards (D-Los Angeles). He was sentenced to 15 years for bank, mail and wire fraud in 1990 (served 9). The sentencing judge called him "the biggest liar that ever walked into my courtroom."

The LA Times characterized the fraud charges as the most recent in a string of legal and financial troubles for Richards.
