Nature doesn't wait for you to turn 18. Parents should prepare their children sooner. It wasn't uncommon for people to start raising families at 13 until society made it impossible.

Of what I know, nobody is proposing 18 as age of consent.

The Justice Minister proposed age 13, because he knew he couldn't get away with proposing age 12 (the two raped girls were 11).

In the end, they will maybe agree upon 14 (I hope not).

In Germany (neighboured to France), age of consent is 14 when the other person is not older than 21. But I doubt France will set a restriction to the age of the adult sex partner.

Looks to me like they might be attempting to change the definition of what a child is. If they set the age at 13 then the law means that every person one day over 13 years old is no longer a child in the eyes of the law. They can't drink. They can't fight a war. They can't drive. They cannot sign legal binding paperwork, etc...

But if pedophiles want to fuck them and potentially get them pregnant they are old enough to raise a family? NOT

They always clean up the crime by using "softened phrases".

Twice in recent weeks, French courts refused to prosecute grown men for rape after they had sex with 11-year-olds because authorities couldn't prove coercion. Amid public horror, the government is drafting a bill to say sex with children under a certain age is by definition coercive.

Feminist groups plan a protest Tuesday to argue the age should be set at 15. Justice Minister Nicole Belloubet says 13 "is worth considering."

The age is just one piece of an upcoming bill on sexual violence and harassment. The bill has gained importance amid worldwide concern unleashed by the allegations against Harvey Weinstein.

Is this a way to get around the Roman Polanski rape charges? Are there any soon to come forward over there? Maybe because so many are coming out over here. Idk, seems kind of coincidental, the age of 13 and right now. I say 18 is the right age. AND while we are on it, who are these Feminists? Why are they fine with 15? Should they not be protecting their daughters, and their sons too? They should be advocating 18 when their children are starting to get closer to adulthood. Some really are not ready until 19 or 20 or even later. You know what I mean. We all know those adults that should have waited. I propose that those Protesting Feminists are possibly sent out there by someone. Hmm. Wonder Who.

Any charges are always brought under the law in effect at the time of crime. Age of consent, if lowered, would not be retroactive.
