I have some experience with the JW cult through a girl I dated. She was raised by a family that was completely devoted to the organization, and all of her friends were a part of it as well. They discourage (most don't even allow) associating themselves with worldly people, which is their term for anybody that isn't a JW.

They have a form of control over their members that is unlike anything I've ever seen. For instance, my ex's immediate family were all part of it and her dad was on the local branches "elder council" which runs everything and also serves as an authority for the JW's to punish members for branching out into the real world.

My ex wasn't allowed to speak to any of her other extended family for her entire life until she was kicked out of the cult. At the time, she was barely an adult, and only had social connections through the cult. After we started seeing each other, she had to go to the elder council and tell them about it. They weren't happy. They decided to banish her.

I didn't think being banished from a cult sounded all that terrible, but when your entire life is wrapped up in this bullshit it can really fuck with your reality. Once banished, other members of the cult will immediately disassociate themselves you. Her family would not speak to her at all, nor would any of her friends that were still involved in the cult. The entire thing was incredibly fucked up.

It seems to me, in that book the bible, there is example after example of organized religion always going bad. In the books about Jesus, it would seem the whole of organized religion was way off track at the time.... and there is also specific instruction to not partake in organized religion such as we see today in many prominent Churches. For those who do not believe the bible to be truth and accurate historical record, it does still serve as a good moral handbook with profound insight to life in general.

The fact that someone would get promoted AFTER the allegation is what blows my mind. They don't even attempt the coverup.

My knowledge of the american judiciary system isn't very good but am i to understand that if the JW keep refusing to comply they will just award the settlement to the victim as they are being Sued and its not a criminal case, that means they can pay the money and the documents would never be released as there is no criminal matter?
