“Army of one” He was talking about how independent his brother was and how he wouldn’t have needed help with anything and said “Stephen was an arm-“ and then stopped himself. He was going to call him an “army of one” but realized that would be inappropriate because of what Stephen had just done.

I did watch the clip and I’ve seen the entire interview like 30 times. I think the thing about besmudging one of the armed forces was just some bs he nervously came up with on the spot. He said a lot of stuff that didn’t quite make sense. “Army of one” matches the context perfectly.
