A Russian hacker has confessed, in court, to being hired by Russian state intelligence to hack the Democratic National Congress’ computer systems in 2016.

Russian website The Bell, known for a generally critical stance towards President Vladimir Putin and the corruption under his rule, reported Monday that Konstantin Kozlovsky had testified to carrying out attacks at the request of state intelligence organs, notably the FSB (the KGB-successor for which Putin himself had worked in Soviet times).

Russian Hacker: I Have Proof the Kremlin Ordered DNC Attack

A Russian hacker who says he was ordered by the Kremlin to crack into the Democratic National Committee’s servers in the summer of 2016 now claims to have proof.

Konstantin Kozlovsky, who is currently in jail for stealing millions from Russian banks, has previously claimed that his attacks on the DNC were ordered by the FSB, a Russian intelligence agency known to recruit young hackers to do its digital dirty work.

In an interview made public this week, Kozlovsky now says there’s proof he accessed in the DNC servers. The hacker told RAIN TV, an independent outlet in Moscow, that he didn’t trust his contacts at the FSB and feared they would turn on him. We shall see if this is true. What is known is Russian trolls and bots were active on twitter interfering with the election, the Russian hacking campaign went way beyond the DNC, (did you hear you heard John Podesta has his personal emails stolen and Seth Rich didn't do it?), Russian linked Facebook ads reached 29 million people directly and 130 million people indirectly?

Julian Assange tries to find a way out

Assange has become a citizen of Ecuador and was turned down for diplomatic immunity.

The Foreign Office has turned down a request from the Ecuadorian government to grant the WikiLeaks founder, Julian Assange, diplomatic status as a means of breaking the stalemate over his continued presence in the UK.

The development comes amid reports that Assange – an Australian who has been holed up in the Ecuadorian embassy for more than five years – has recently become a citizen of the South American state.

If awarded the status of a diplomat, it is thought, Assange could obtain certain rights to legal immunity and might be able to leave the embassy in Knightsbridge, and eventually the UK, without being arrested for breaching his former bail conditions.

Swedish prosecutors last year unexpectedly dropped their investigation into allegations against him, which included a claim of rape. He had been resisting extradition to Stockholm for years.

Assange still faces arrest for breaching bail conditions if he steps outside the embassy. WikiLeaks has voiced fears that the US will seek his extradition if he leaves the embassy. It is rumoured that there is a sealed US indictment ordering his arrest.

An FCO spokesperson, confirming the latest attempt to resolve the impasse, said on Wednesday night: “The government of Ecuador recently requested diplomatic status for Mr Assange here in the UK. The UK did not grant that request, nor are we in talks with Ecuador on this matter. Ecuador knows that the way to resolve this issue is for Julian Assange to leave the embassy to face justice.”
