Here we have yet another case of a district attorney who gives it all away in a plea deal under the guise of sparing the victim having to go through a trial. He'll use his win statistics to get reelected and count on voters to forget that justice was not served.

Darrell Alan Harris, 47, will be required to register as a sex offender for life. He could also face a jail sentence of up to six months....... The investigation began after the 20-year-old accuser reported the allegations to a family member. The charges included one count of continuous sexual abuse of a girl under 14 years old between May 2008 and May 2011.

Under the relevant section of the penal code, the law applies to “any person who either resides in the same home with the minor child or has recurring access to the child.”

The other counts, which included charges such as lewd acts and oral sex with a minor, covered various periods from 2011 to 2015. The accuser was between the ages of 14 and 17 during that span.

A fifth count, a misdemeanor charge of sexual battery, involves the same alleged victim after she turned 18. That charge covered a period from May 2015 to March 2017.

The case was investigated by the Marin County District Attorney’s Office and the Santa Rosa Police Department. The Santa Rosa department was asked to participate because Harris, who lives in San Rafael, has a family connection to the San Rafael Police Department and worked closely with Marin law enforcement agencies.

Harris spent about three weeks in jail in lieu of $750,000 bail after his arrest. That time, plus credits for good behavior, will be applied to any jail sentence he receives.
