The Daily Mail retracts Melania Trump story after lawsuit filed

LONDON: The Daily Mail newspa- per and its website retracted a story about Melania Trump yesterday after she filed a lawsuit accusing the Daily Mail Online and a Maryland blogger of falsely accusing her of involve- ment with an escort agency during her modeling career. The retraction, published on page 14 of the Daily Mail tabloid and on its popular website, said the newspa- per regrets any “misinterpretation” of the August 20 article. It said the story wasn’t intended to suggest that Melania Trump had been involved in escort work, but rather to raise ques- tions about whether allegations about her past could hurt her husband’s campaign for the White House. “Among other things, the arti- cle noted that allegations have been made in a book available on Amazon about a modeling agency where Mrs. Trump worked in Milan being ‘some- thing like a gentleman’s club,’ and an article published by Suzy, a Slovenian magazine, alleged that Mrs. Trump’s modeling agency in New York, run by Paolo Zampolli, ‘operated as an escort agency for wealthy clients,’” the newspaper said. The newspaper said it “did not intend” to suggest she had worked as an escort or been involved in the sex business. “To the contrary, The Daily Mail newspaper article stated that there was no support for the allegations, and it provided ada- mant denials from Mrs. Trump’s spokesperson and from Mr. Zam- polli,” it said. In Slovenia, Natasa Pirc Musar, the owner of the law firm Pirc Musar, told The Associated Press that Mel- ania Trump has sued the tabloid magazine Suzy over the disputed story because it published “com- pletely untrue” claims about her. Melania Trump is a former model who has actively supported her hus- band’s candidacy and spoke on his behalf at the Republican convention. Her US lawyer filed the lawsuit on Thursday in state court in Mont- gomery County, Maryland, home of Webster Tarpley, who publishes the Tarpley.net blog. It seeks a minimum of $75,000 from each defendant.

Oh, no, I totally get that, and at the time I didn't realize that even though mine was posted first what people are seeing is yours first, of course, but the read to upvoat ratio was really pissing me off just a bit because according to the views on my thread, over 25 upvoats for about 450 views, and at the time it was like 30 upvoats for only 60 views on your thread, even though your thread was obviously inspired by mine , as mine was by the one a few below that.

Please, I know it may look and sound as though I may be whining. But I'm not, I'm perplexed. The stats are telling me something and I don't know quite what it is and I tend to personalize it a little bit and it gets to me, but the statistics are telling me something else and I don't know what it is. I can't tell if it's the way threads are viewed, if it's something about the readers, or if it truly is something about my writing. One of the three, but I find VOATS voting habits to be in some sort of contradiction to it's interest in Pizzagate. Like I said there's something I just can't put my finger on what those stats are telling me.

Because your post includes a Hollywood name like Nicole Kidman it will be found by many more people who are simply on the internet and looking for Hollywood gossip. Voat posts do show up in Google - that's why it's useful to put in a well known name in the title. Far less people will be looking for the United Nations. So, you will have a wider readership but not necessarily people who are interested in the 'pizzagate' issues. It's that simple I think.
