The bill called for the state to ban marriages where one of the parties is under 18 years old.

This bill should have been killed if it stated that.

This is about PEDOPHILIA. That needs to be stopped. Not an eighteen-year-old marrying a seventeen-year-old.

Nobody under 18 should be getting married. If you can't be trusted to make a rational decision about who to elect President, whether or not to smoke or drink, whether or not to join the military -- you shouldn't be trusted to make a decision to enter marriage which is supposed to be a commitment for life.

Even if the girl is knocked up, that is no reason to automatically get married. It might have mattered years ago when having a baby out of wedlock was still taboo -- but it is no big deal now, so no one needs to rush into a marriage. If you can't wait a year or two until you turn 18, you don't comprehend the concept of a marriage anyway.

That's your opinion becoming law.

While I would never encourage anyone under 18 to marry, I don't think two seventeen-year-olds getting married is anything that should be banned. Again, this is about pedophilia. About girls and boys being groomed for sexual perversity, not teens falling in love. It's also about girls being sold into marriage. Yeah, all that: illegal. But two kid falling in love? Nope. Not a legal matter.

If I had gotten pregnant as a teen I would have gotten married. Why take that choice away?

Q2anon

You want to marry a 13 year old or something?

Im_Brian

You didn't read it. 13 year olds?

"Nonprofit group Unchained at Last says it has found at least three marriages in Tennessee involving a child as young as 10 years old"

migratorypatterns

I read and discounted that. They've made that claim about ten-year-olds being married for every state in the union, but never have anything to back it up. Seems like if they found a marriage certificate, they'd have the names.

So Unchained seems to be a disinfo group. Not sure why they're lying about this.

Im_Brian

You expect them to name 10 year olds? I think the problem is that the wrong party is involved.

migratorypatterns

If the names are on marriage licenses, they're public record.

You don't have to name them, just produce the record. Cheesh! Come on!

'If Tennessee were to ban child marriages by modifying state marriage law, lawmakers would be acknowledging the existence of same-sex marriage, according to Fowler’s legal theory. '

'The bill called for the state to ban marriages where one of the parties is under 18 years old. '

'State House Republicans in Tennessee on Wednesday effectively killed a bill to ban child marriages in an effort to bolster a conservative lawyer’s case against the Supreme Court decision on same-sex marriage. '

'Fowler’s email said he is preparing a lawsuit to counter the U.S. Supreme Court’s decision to legalize same-sex marriage in the 2015 case of Obergefell v. '

Im sorry to ask this (pardon my ignorance). Are you a person? A voater like us? Or is this summary comment and cartoon element created by a program that is a feature of the platform? I am just curious. I find some of the attached images very interesting, and the summaries very helpful. Either way, thanks for your contribution!
