If what Clifford said is true (and given his background, he's in a position to know), then Al Fayed was in a very weak position to pursue the case for the murder of his son and Lady Dianna. His own crimes make him a controlled asset.

As for the donations in return for being provided with access to young victims, Jimmy Savile did exactly that at Stoke Mandeville Hospital, while being watched by staff. So there is a strong precedent for a "charitable donation" (pay off) allowing those in power to do as they please.

What Max Clifford says in that longer video about Al Fayed and his contributions to the Chase Hospice in exchange for groping of young girls (and I get the impression there's much more stuff that he knows about) and that this is a common practice amongst many well known people is important.
