So now we are getting rid of stuff because it COULD be used for human trafficking. What an absolute fucking joke. Lets just ban everything and everyone will be safe. Where there is a demand there will be a market. This does nothing except affect non human traffickers.

IVIVI

I agree. The same logic to ban the personal section is similar logic people are using to ban guns and gun products. If you're for this ban, use the same logic and ban/restrict guns and guns products too.

This move by craigslist came after the senate approved the Stop Enabling Sex Traffickers Act.

I have an idea to stop enabling sex trafficking. Exterminate a large portion of the population. Lets just get straight to the point and stop bullshitting. Humans facilitate human sex trafficking. The only way to stop enabling this behavior is to exterminate a large portion of the human population.

jeremiahk

None of the real trafficking occurred there. This is purely about censorship.

I read that the CEO of backpage.com got arrested for their ads

But he didn't pull it because majority of the profits come from those ads

Maybe he figures It's cheaper to pay fines then lose the income

I think this is a good sign. It shows how much these tech companies turn a blind eye.

new4now

it's a start :)

and yet the Dark Web will carry on

wonder how traffickers will get around this?

realityisinsanity

Tor will keep letting them get away as usual.

While this is a good thing, the shutdown of the Personals Section there is another side to the coin: However, tech industry associations and internet rights advocates are concerned about the free speech implications of the legislation. In August 2017, 10 tech trade groups -- including the Internet Association and the Interactive Advertising Bureau -- coauthored a letter condemning the Senate bill and said it would have a "chilling effect" on companies.

"Platforms will err on the side of extreme caution in removing content uploaded by their users, while cutting back on proactive prevention measures," the groups warned in the letter.

UpVoat! This is cause for Celebration!!!

yep, good and bad but at least this cesspool is gone.

carmencita

Yes, maybe this will do more good than bad (I mean of course in our case). We will have to wait and see.
