I suspect MS 13 is an offshoot of the Phoenix Program. Their MO certainly matches. El Salvador is known for being a hotbed of CIA fuckery.

But the international spotlight that President Donald Trump focused Friday onto MS-13 highlights a problem that Houston-area law enforcement has been battling for years.

The gang - largely based in El Salvador after forming in California prisons in the 1980s - has been linked to the hacking death of a teen in the Sam Houston National Forest near Huntsville, to the torture and killing of a runaway girl in southwest Houston and, most recently, to two killings in Fort Bend and Harris counties.

On Friday, Trump targeted the gang as part of a renewed push for border security funding while Attorney General Jeff Sessions traveled to El Salvador to discuss anti-gang efforts there.

"We are going to destroy the vile criminal cartel, MS-13, and many other criminal gangs," Trump told an audience of law enforcement officers on Long Island, New York. "They're animals."

The trail of violence continued with the horrific slaying of a young woman in March. Authorities said two gang members killed Genesis Cornejo-Alvarado in a satanic ritual after holding her for days at an apartment in southwest Houston. Prosecutors later charged Miguel Alvarez-Flores and Diego Hernandez-Rivera with the murder, claiming they killed the girl after she disrespected their shrine to Satanism.

The list goes on and on. And In Mexico they are known for their Satanic Ritual Crimes.

MS-13 emerged in the 1980s in the streets of Los Angeles among Salvadoran immigrants who had fought in their country's brutal civil war.

The gang caught on, and its ranks spread to other Central American immigrants.

In the 1990s and 2000s, many gang members were deported to El Salvador, Guatemala and Honduras, where they gained immense power, turning Central America's northern triangle into the world's deadliest region not at war.

Many then returned to the United States, strengthened by their organizational base in Central America.
