Right there is the missing piece of this puzzle. Is he dead? Does he even exist? What is this place that Paddock squatted upon, a business, or a home? The court rejected the last minute motion to postpone the trial to give the prosecution more time to obtain the star witness. The main witness could not be compelled to return to the USA. As for the claim of predjudice that a DA's daughter had been killed, that usually results in a change of venue, not dismissal.

Thus the judge's ruling was predicated on the unavailability of the only witness to the crime of possession. We all are guaranteed the right to a speedy trial. The judge may not have had a choice in the matter. However, Mr. Paddock will forever live with the stigma of child porn hanging over his head which will punish him socially since the Internet lives on forever.
