Thank you so much!!

think-

I guess it was translated from a French original - they thank a translator in their preface:

'Special thanks to Olivier Taymans, who had been mĂșch more than translator before this book, and who should deserve much more than this short sentence.'

Belgium has two official languages, French and Dutch, so it wouldn't be surprising if it had been written in French; and one of the authors is a native speaker of French.

Socks_are_okay

Yeah, but did not know if that person translated the book or just parts of it. Going through the paragraphs the writing all-together is a bit weird and sometimes when I thought a certain thing had been said, it turned out to go the other way. So didn't dare make much assuming about what had been translated by this person.

think-

Ok, thanks.

Socks_are_okay

Think I made a typo? I meant that I did it until chapter 2... Hadn't gotten to that yet. There's this language difference and I'm kind of stuck between 3 languages, of which Dutch and English are 2. Sometimes I slip up a bit. (Think it's called chapter 2, considering how the 1st part is split up in 3)

think-

I think you translated it until the end of Chapter 1. ;-)

What exactly did you mean by this, btw.?

I am not translating anymore of this mess; it feels the writer tries to push the reader into a direction, and loses objective storytelling.

Into which direction do you think the book wants to push the reader?

I saw that there is a chapter about the 'innocence' of the former Belgian PM DiRupio - did you mean that the book tries to whitewash some people?

That's okay I just posted the archive and have not read to the end yet myself. We'll get it labeled correctly, eventually. :)

All bits help, at least

think-

@9217 - have you seen this post?

9217

Just saw it, was AWOL for a couple of days, thanks for the tag!

think-

Welcome, @9217 . :-)

think-

Thank you! Pro-tip: Would you please consider breaking the pdf-link, or put a 'PDF Warning' in bold before it - otherwise the mods are gonna flair the post. ;-) Thanks!

Socks_are_okay

How do I do that?

think-

Now that you have added the PDF warning, it'll be fine.

'Breaking the link' means putting a space somewhere in the link, like this f.e.:

https:// files.catbox.moe/ibud7o.pdf

...so that people don't accidentally click it, without realizing it's a pdf-document. You just tell them that they have to eliminate the space when copying the link into a browser window.

Hope this helps.

Thanks!

Socks_are_okay

I had no idea! Thank you for the how to. I will do that next time, should I post another link.

Thank you so much!

think-

You're kindly welcome, @Socks_are_okay . :-)

I browsed your translation - it's really impressive how much work you put into this, kudos to you!

Please keep up the excellent work! :-)

Socks_are_okay

Thank you.

Heh... Don't think I'll work more on the translation of this book. Missing notes, strange mistakes, using emotions to paint parties a certain way... it feels more like working on a piece of propaganda rather than data with a well- composed narrative.

think-

You're welcome.

Heh... Don't think I'll work more on the translation of this book.

No, I got that. ;-) With 'please keep up the excellent work' I meant your general contributions to this sub. ;-)

it feels more like working on a piece of propaganda rather than data with a well- composed narrative.

Since you delved in deeply, I would be very much interested in hearing what you think was propaganda? (Genuine question, I didn't have time to read the chapter you translated yet.)

Socks_are_okay

Ah like that. Well, if I can translate something I think is solid, I'd not mind much.

The writer leaves out notes and reliable sources a lot of times, and uses emotions and emotional reactions to express situations. At some point one man outsmarts a competiting organization for info, and the writer states the organization was purple with anger. On top of it being a generalization, there was no source mentioned about this angry reaction. Other times, by use of words, it feels like the writer wants to make some seem more important than others. Some people get a great introduction, while others don't even get their profession written fully. It's a mess that reads unpleasantly.

Check out the final pages - from 33 if I'm not mistaken. I got a list of peculiarities set up there.

Hope this helps!

think-

Great, thanks for explaining! :-)
