Well, as for Germany the article speaks nothing but the truth. It’s a far right term and only used here by the far right.

Only the translation might be troublesome, since it actually means „lying press“ which only has the same MEANING as „Fake News“.

But undoubtable Id say is, that the term became the most popular when Trump started to use it and therefore also became a rather far right term in the states.

"Fake news" is the safer version of "That is a lie or false". It falls in the same line with conspiracy theory as a way to throw doubt on and question/demonize the claim or the accuser.

Yes, NYT is the worst. A few years ago, there was some credible evidence to substantiate that certain people were being targeted(for various reasons) with some documentary film makers talking to people like me among others such as Dr. John Hall. Almost immediately , NYT's came out with a hit piece on targeted Individuals claiming we were all schizophrenic and nuts. That is what they do much like what Wikipedia did with regards to Ritual Abuse calling it satanic panic from the 80's. A load of B.S.

Obama is the first person i heard use the term. He used it incessantly on his farewell international junket at our expense. He was lobbying for censorship of alt media and basically anything that deviates from mainstream news and official government "truth." It was clearly the program plan to shut down any conservative response because the script has been implemented perfectly.
