Australia recently had a Royal Commission into institutional child sex abuse, ostensibly set up to look into rape of children by the Church and scout groups

it identified 4444 victims over 36 years, but it was hamstrung from the outset in only having investigative powers, not prosecutorial ones

it apparently deemed this political pedo ring out of its auspices, and former PM John Howard is said to have issued the 90 yr suppression order on the documents
