More like the other way round. Maybe a last desperate attempt to stop the arrest.

But imo Berman was sacked because Trump wanted to replace him with a guy from NJ, who once had Deutsche bank among his clients. NB - the SDNY is currently investigating Trump and Deutsche for money laundering.

Berman refused to step back, and reached an agreement with Barr - he left, but Barr had to replace him with Strauss (for the time being), his former deputy.

Maybe. Maybe not. SDNY is one of the most politicized offices in the US. The story is, that guy wouldn’t leave until Barr agreed that the current Deputy was moved into his role. Could be another rat is sitting there. Time will tell.
