Could we list the archiving process here in this thread please? Thanks

Any tips for archiving youtubes? archive.is doesn't seem to do it

PizzagateBot

Archive.org does with youtube.com links (not with youtu.be) and so does webrecorder.io, but with webrecorder.io you have to watch the whole video for it to capture it all and you have to create an account to permanently save archives, but you can download the archive file without any account.

The Miles Mathis site "Updates" has his political essays.

And he also has a long list of essays on Art Criticism and Aesthetics which have turned to the reality of social and cultural engineering.

His science and math essay create a lot of heat and discussion. I'm certain someone , somewhere, has backed that up, because he has science / math Fans. But I'm not so sure the political / historical essays have complete back - up

samhara

I have noticed several things I have tried to archive on archive.is have failed.

I get a google message that the site is blocked. Even though the URL is still up and running and the site is live on-line

Sometimes I will find an important essay on the "Wayback Machine" archive.org / when it is no longer live and not on Archive.is.

But Archive.is will sometimes let me back - up the Archive.org copy; and sometimes, very often, it will not.

I wanted to bring this up today on VOAT , so your message is very timely.

I need to find a way to use a spider to back up some entire sites.

The images are very important to some analysis and for some sites the Archive.is will not save the images.

In the case of Mathis the images are very important since he is a photo analyst.

mileswmathis.com

is not perfect in all respects. He is an investigator and does speculate some, but the site is too volumuous for me to back it all up by hand. And it should be backed up by more than just me.

mileswmathis.com

That site looks like it has static page, not dynamically generated, in which case you can use this tool - https://www.httrack.com/

Absolutely, I myself have dealt personally with news agencies changing articles and not making an editors note, the changes are always highly suspicious and intentional to throw off questioning and cover up information. Archiving AND SOURCING are of the UTMOST importance in keeping research credible and exposing the truth, I mention it often in my videos.

themushmouth

That's good. Keep a reminder to archive everything it doesn't matter what the site is. You never know when you might need it in the future.

PizzagateBot

It is really shitty that the one time the archive is needed, I got a 302 response on crawl https://web.archive.org/web/20170424143844/https://www.google.com/amp/www.foxnews.com/entertainment/2017/04/24/erin-morans-final-days-fellow-former-child-stars-were-trying-to-help.amp.html and it seems to happen to others, this claims it is a bug https://webapps.stackexchange.com/questions/94526/why-does-archive-org-say-that-it-got-http-302-for-this-url

I'll contact archive.org about it.

Archive.is frequently blocks my IP for using it to archive /v/pizzagate , even when its well throttled for high link count posts, and when I contact them to ask if there are any tips to stop from getting blocked, they will not reply to me.

THE_LIES_OH_THE_LIES

I have not experienced this.

samhara

LIkely deliberate.

Sometime I get "Last archived [date] do you want to save it again?" - other times I get "last archived [date] and no option. I check the history sometimes. A bit random?

samhara

Good point. Thank you.

Mbailey63

Yes this needs to be posted permanently somewhere. Great post

A Note About Archiving and the Media (pizzagate) Apr 25 2017 by @Mrs_Ogynist01

This is an interim sticky because we believe it is important for users to know. The Executive Summary will be back in due course.

Mrs_Ogynist01

Cool! I've never had a "sticky" before. :)

DerivaUK

Glad I suggested!!

sensitive

Nice, isn't it? ;-) I never stickied a post before - first day as a full mod :-)

THE_LIES_OH_THE_LIES

Please sticky the executive summary, even the old one, while you guys work on the new one.

VictorSteinerDavion

And it's looking like that was the right choice to make.

Everyone has been very supportive and this community continues to be something worthy of the cause.
Thank you for your part in it, it is very welcome.

Chatman

You should throw a sticky party where everyone's dressed in Velcro and the walls are made of velcro

YingYangMom

Congrats :)

How do I archive something?

Mrs_Ogynist01

Copy the contents of the address bar (that's the URL) of the site you want to archive. Open up archive.is. Paste the URL in the red box and hit "save page." Then just copy the new URL in from the address bar. That's it.

jstrotha0975

Okay, thank you.

fartyshorts

I'll go through and double-archive all the links. Also, I guess it doesn't hurt to repeat this:

You can make bookmarklets for archive.org and archive.is to instantly archive the page you are currently viewing. Activate your bookmarks toolbar if you haven't already, go to archive.is and click-and-drag the bookmarklet to your toolbar. Click it to archive.

Make a new bookmark and enter the following as the adress/URL:

javascript:void(open('http://web.archive.org/save/'+(document.location)))

That is the bookmarklet for archive.org. One-click archival! I use both on almost every link I click on on this site.

samhara

I 'm failing to figure out how to put the javascript on my toolbar.

Oh that's right, my browser doesn't use Java? !

fartyshorts

Java is not the same thing as Javascript. You enter it by creating a new bookmark, this is how it looks in Firefox vs. Chrome:

https://imgoat.com/uploads/ab3238922b/13950.png

BTW: There is a third archival service called "WebCite", which you can bookmarklet like this:

javascript:void(location.href='http://www.webcitation.org/archive?url='+encodeURIComponent(document.location))

But then you have to enter meta data manually, so it's not a one-click service.

xbryn

Any advise or tips for archiving things locally?

fartyshorts

Ctrl+S :p

Judgejewdy

Quick autopsy. And she's obviously much more important and much more wealthy than, say, scalia since, you know, he never got one. Makes sense. Sorry, just venting.

Mrs_Ogynist01

Agreed. Nothing scetchy at all about not performing an autopsy on one of the most important people in the world who died alone in a hotel & did not have a terminal illness. /s

DerivaUK

I think this should have a sticky for a while

equineluvr

I concur. It's important for researchers to know this.
